She was born on December 12, 1940 in Lynchburg and is the daughter of the late Reed and Audrey Witt.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Young.
Betty had a long working career and was retired from Intercon Incorporated. She was also a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church. She was an avid Bingo player and loved going to the beach, but the joy in her life came from the love she had for her children and grandchildren. From babysitting all of them to hosting wonderful meals and holiday gatherings to supporting each of them with whatever sports or activities they were involved in. She was always present and cheering them on.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 64 years, Cordell A. Mason; two sons, David W. Mason and wife Rhonda and Stephen D. Mason and wife Karen; five grandchildren, Larken Mason, Courtney Nelms and husband Daniel, Sidnie Mason, and fiancée Andrew Moeller, Kalie Mason and Karsen Mason. She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Cloey Mason and Ashlyn Nelms.
The family would also like to thank the Gentle Shephard Hospice team for their excellent care of Betty during her final days.
A graveside service will be held at 12:30 pm on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with Pastor David Turner officiating.
The family will receive friends from 11 – 12 on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 8180 Greensboro Drive, Suite 400, McLean, VA 22102.
