Born on July 14, 1937 in Campbell County, she was the daughter of the late William M. Irby and Minnie R. Irby. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Robert T. Lipscomb; her sons Robert T. “Tommy” Lipscomb Jr. and Allen S. Lipscomb; siblings Irene W. Fulton, Roselee Boan, Eunice Dudley, Raymond Irby, William Irby Jr., Mary F. Irby and Russell Irby; son-in law Klaus Boehle; sister-in-laws Hilda Callahan, Frances Cheatham and Doris Booker; brother-in-laws Paul Lipscomb, John Lipscomb and Marshall Cheatham.
Betty provided childcare in her home for over 50 years. She loved and cherished the opportunity to help mold, teach and love many generations of children. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Betty also loved the Lord and her faith was of utmost importance to her. She was a member of the Lynchburg Seventh Day Adventist Church and attended Fairview Christian Church with her husband and children, and Mountain View Christian Fellowship was also an important part of her life.
She is survived by her children Deborah L. Boehle, Robert T. “Tee” Lipscomb III and his wife April; grandchildren Kartley Mallard and her husband Daniel, Amy Strickland and her husband Shaun, Paul Lipscomb, Drew Lipscomb, Christa Bradford and her husband Jason; great-grandchildren Ace, Brinnley and Berkley; sisters-in-law whom she thought of as sisters, Loretta Burker, Charlotte Harvey and her husband James, Emma Irby and a brother-in-law Murtis Boan.
A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Presbyterian Cemetery with Pastor Charles Olivieri and Pastor Geraldo Alonso II officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Rd., Lynchburg.
