Born on March 6, 1937 in Amherst County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Clifton Cyrus and Leslie Ogden Cyrus. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Clifton Cyrus, Jr.; and four sisters, Helen Clements, Tessie Tyree, Addie Lee Mayberry, and Carolyn Childress.
Betty retired from Lynchburg General Hospital as a baker. She was a member of Forest Baptist Church and she loved Jesus, her family, and cooking.
In addition to her husband, Robert, she is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Jean Noell, and Linda Darnell Compton; son, Robert Odell “Bebo” Compton, Jr.; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; special uncles, Carlton “Collie” Cyrus, and William “Hunter” Cyrus; special brother-in-law, Eugene Childress; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thank you to Dr. Truitte and his staff at Stroobants Cardiovascular Center, Cindy Mangrum at Centra Medical Group, Virginia Baptist Rehab, Jamerson YMCA and friends and neighbors who supported her through her 2 year illness.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at Spring Hill Cemetery, with Rev. Gayland Leverett officiating.
