Born in Lancaster, SC, on September 10, 1950, to the late Franklin Orr and Vertie Wagner Orr, she grew up in Rock Hill, SC, and moved to Lynchburg, VA, at age 26 and developed a career in finance and bookkeeping.
As an active servant of the Lord to her family and community, she was a member Calvary Baptist Church in Rock Hill, SC, as well as Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA, where she blessed many young lives with 30 years of service as a first grade Sunday School teacher. She also maintained membership to the Board of Regents at Liberty University.
She was an ambassador for family unity and is survived by her husband P.H. Mitchell of Lynchburg, VA, step daughter Wanda Goff and husband Keith in Rustburg, VA; step son Byran Mitchell and wife Vivian of Concord, VA; 6 step grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren; mother-in-law Grace Jordan of Lynchburg, VA; sisters Theresa Daniels and her husband Butch, Pam Yates, and Sherry Wright and her husband Swain of Rock Hill, SC, and Jeannie Brown and her husband John of Clover, SC; brother Bill Orr and his wife Julie of Rock Hill, SC; and beloved friend Shirley Millsaps. She is further survived by 8 nieces, 9 nephews, 16 great nieces,12 great nephews and 1 great-great nephew.
In addition to her parents, Beckie is preceded by her brother Hugh Orr.
A celebration of Beckie's life will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2010 at Thomas Road Baptist Church with Pastor Jonathan Falwell officiating. The family will receive friends following the service until 9:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, April 6, 2010, a funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Rock Hill, SC, with Dr. Jim Neal, Pastor Tom Tucker and Pastor Bruce Wyatt officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Memorial Park in Rock Hill. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of Swain & Sherry Wright, 2253 Nations Ford Rd., Rock Hill, SC.
In lieu of flowers, Beckie asked well-wishers to serve the Lord by contributing to Calvary Baptist Church, or Gideon International.
