Services for Wanda Lee (Hall) Lewing, 94, of Zavalla, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2017 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Joel Hitchcock and Pastor Troy Hall officiating. Interment will follow in the Zavalla Cemetery with the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Lewing was born March 26, 1923 in Clinton, Oklahoma, the daughter of Eric and Nannie (Weatherford) Hall. She passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2017 in Hospice Care in Pasadena, Texas.
Wanda met Roy during World War II, where he was an airplane mechanic for the Air Force and she worked in the airplane factory as a “Rosie the Riveter”. They later married on August 12, 1943 and began to grow their family in 1944.
Wanda was a retired machinist. She loved her family and her dog, Savannah. Wanda retired from manufacturing in late 1982. She and Roy moved from Houston to Zavalla into a home they built together with the help of their family. Wanda was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church of Zavalla and was a member of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Wanda Lewing of Houston, Jimmy and Faricha Lewing of Troy, and Ronnie and Cindy Lewing of Tiki Island; daughter and son-in-law, Gwen and Hulon Miller of Zavalla; brother and sister-in-law, Troy and Corrine Hall of Buda, Texas; 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great- grandchildren; and a number of other family members.
In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lewing; brother, J. G. Hall; sister, Dorothy (Dot) Cook; and great-grandson, Christopher Greer.
Pallbearers will be Jake Lewing, Sean Lewing, Morgan Lewing, John Coon, Andy Bowman, Lance Silva, Bradley Childers, Brody Greer and Brent Berry.
The family will receive friends from noon until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
