Services for Suzanne Crawford, 71, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2019 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Mike Curry and Dr. Jason Crawford officiating. Interment will follow in the Arnold Cemetery in Forest, Texas.
Suzanne was born August 20, 1947 in Lufkin, Texas, the daughter of the late Lilly Maurice (Solley) and William E. “Bill” Miles. She passed away in her home, surrounded by family, on Thursday, March 21, 2019.
Suzanne was a graduate of Lufkin High School Class of 1965 where she played clarinet in the Lufkin Panther Band. She attended Sam Houston State University and played clarinet in the Sam Houston Bearkat Band. She later attended Stephen F. Austin State University and graduated in the Class of 1990, receiving her Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. She earned 18 hours toward her Master of Arts Degree in Child Development from University of North Texas.
She worked in Scholarships and Financial Aid at Angelina College and University of North Texas, Bright Horizons in Plano, Texas for 7 years, and was employed with Gipson Funeral Home for the last 10 years.
Suzanne is survived by her sons, Corey William Crawford and fiancé Angie Loftin of Johnson City, Texas, Dr. Jason Brent Crawford and husband Eric Johnston of Montreal, Quebec Canada, and Ryan Taylor Crawford and girlfriend Abby Markous of Charleston, South Carolina. Suzanne deeply loved her only grandchild, Oliver Duncan Crawford of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. She was proud of her boys and loved them deeply and unconditionally. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Jeanie Miles; precious niece, Julie Miles Hinson; adorable great-niece, Lilly Hinson, all of Lufkin; nephew, Noland Miles and girlfriend Marcie Poteet of Huntington, Texas; and numerous cousins and friends whom she loved dearly.
Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents, William E. and Maurice Miles; grandparents, Vera Miller, Sudie and William Dewey Solley; several aunts and uncles; cousin, Dewey K. Morgan; and numerous friends and classmates.
Special thanks to her brother Mike, niece Julie, son Corey and Angie for all their help, love and support; cousin Phillip Morgan for his conversations, love and support; special friends, Charlene Cortines, Vickie Askew-Krolikowski, Helen Conner and Kitty Bounds for their care, love and kindness.
Suzanne also wished to thank Dr. Bora Lim at the Inflammatory Breast Cancer Center at M. D. Anderson, Drs. Lenin and Pavan Pinnamaneni for providing care on a personal and professional level and the wonderful staff with Harbor Hospice for the special care they provided.
Pallbearers will be Danny Teel, Steve Cavazos, Brandon Curry, Phil Huber, Phillip Watson, Phillip Morgan, Julie Hinson and Lilly Hinson.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Lufkin High School Panther Band Class of 1965.
Memorial contributions in Suzanne’s memory may be made to the Inflammatory Breast Cancer Center at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe Avenue, Houston, TX 77030.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
