Memorial services for Stephen Winfield Langford, 51, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2015 in the Henderson Chapel of Lufkin’s First United Methodist Church, with Dr. Jeremiah Brimmage officiating, assisted by Jeff Campbell.
Stephen was born June 29, 1964 in Houston and passed away Thursday, September 24, 2015 at his residence.
Stephen was a graduate of Lufkin High School, grew up in Lufkin’s First United Methodist Church, and worked for Patterson Drilling. He served for 5 years in the United States Navy, and after boot camp, he served all 5 years as a Chef on the carrier, USS Kitty Hawk. He was the Chef for the Admiral of the Fleet and the Captain of the ship. While on the Kitty Hawk, he visited New Zealand, Australia, the Philippines, Korea, Japan, Spain, and France. Stephen also went on two photographic safaris while the Kitty Hawk was docked at Kenya. He loved to cook, play sports, and talk about his favorite teams, which were the LSU Tigers, Boston Red Sox, Miami Heat, and New Orleans Saints. He was a kind and generous guy and loved doing things for his family and friends.
Survivors include his parents, Ernest and Kay Langford of Lufkin; brother, Michael Langford of Lufkin; sister, Amy Hearn of Lufkin; nieces, Tara and husband, Charlie Zavala, Jr. and Taylor Schroeder; great-nephews, Caleb and Gabriel Zavala; great-niece, Kaedence Sitze; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frances and Ernest Gilley and Amy and C. M. Langford; aunts, Lisa Gilley and Derene Standifer; and uncle, Charles M. Langford III.
