

Services for Robert Earl Card, 97, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2013 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Horace Fletcher officiating. Interment will be in the Whitehouse Cemetery.
Mr. Card was born on October 29, 1915 in Lufkin, Texas, the son of the late Eula Ellen (Eddings) and John Harvey Card. He passed away Monday, September 16, 2013 at Methodist Stone Oak Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.
Mr. Card was a loving, devoted husband, brother and uncle. He grew up in Lufkin, Texas and graduated from Lufkin High School. After high school, welding became his profession. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was in Pearl Harbor working as a welder when it was bombed on December 7, 1941. He was employed by the United States Navy at Pearl Harbor Navy Yard to repair the ships that were damaged in the war. He remained there until the end of the war. After leaving Pearl Harbor, he continued to work as a welder until retiring in Nederland with the love of his life, Adell. They did some bus trips, cruises, and a lot of deer hunting. Their final home was in Lufkin on Card Drive. After Adell passed away, he lived by himself until April 2012 when he moved to the San Antonio area to live with family.
Survivors include his sister, Esther Loden; nieces, Christine Davis and husband James, Martha Schwab and husband Leroy, Betty House and husband Jerry, Janice Johnson and husband Jesse, Judy Light and husband Mickey, Jane Evans, Peggy Fischer and husband John; nephews, Wayne Lawrence and wife Segis, Rocky Lawrence and wife Debra, Joe Lawrence and wife Debbie, Ronnie Lawrence and wife Beverly, Royce Lawrence and wife Rosemary, Alan Lawrence and Jerry Lawrence. He was also loved and respected by many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Card was preceded in death by his wife, Adell Card; and brother, Frank Card.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Davis, Gary Davis, Tyler Carpenter, Zachary Newland, and Austin Newland.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
