Services for Ray E. Landrum, 71, of Lufkin, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2014 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Randy Brown officiating. Inurnment will be in the Sims/Rocky Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Landrum was born May 27, 1943 in Diboll, Texas, the son of the late Imogene (McGahee) and Earnest Edward Landrum. He passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2014 in a Houston hospital.
Mr. Landrum was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He served our country with the United States Navy and retired as a Master Chief after 25 years of honorable service in 1985. While in the military, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Air Medal (16), Vietnam Service Medal with 6 bronze stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Republic of Vietnam Unit Commendation (4), Good Conduct Medals (5), Meritorious Unit Commendation (2), Navy Achievement Medal, and Armed Forces Medal. He loved the Navy. The military was his life. He then went on to retire from Boeing in 1998. Ray was an example of a sailor, husband, father and friend for all to follow.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Landrum of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, David and Rachel Landrum of Winter Park, Florida; stepson, Scott Will Petit and wife Jennifer of Onalaska; stepdaughter, Angela B. Estenson and husband Mark of Morris, Minnesota; 6 grandchildren; sister, Janey E. Ramsey; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Landrum was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jean Lakey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Landrum, Dave Thomas, Steve Hobbs, Mike Glenn, James Lakey, and Dawayne Walshak.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
