Nancy Etta Russell Merritt

Nancy Etta Russell Merritt, 91, of Lufkin, was born January 16, 1920 in Huntington, Texas, the daughter of the late Cassie (Addison) and Jessie Abner Russell. She passed away Sunday, October 30, 2011 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Merritt was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her family very much. She enjoyed cooking and fishing. She was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include her daughters, Gwendolyn Turner of San Augustine and Annette Sawyer Rhodes of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Yealonda and Otho Dominey of Trinity; 8 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and a number of other family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Merritt was preceded in death by her husbands, Johnny Russell and Mack Merritt; brothers, Harvey Russell, Alvin Russell, Levi Russell and Louis Russell; and sisters, Zadie Henderson and Zula Russell.

Services for Mrs. Merritt will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Rick Russell officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Center Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
