Margie Marie Mathis

Margie had lived in Lufkin most of her life. She was born October 13, 1928 in Nancy, Texas to Bill and Florence (Ashby) and passed away Sunday, April 30, 2023 at her residence.

Margie retired from Lufkin National Bank/First City National Bank as Asst. Vice President. She was a past president of the Luncheon Pilot Club of Lufkin and served capacities at her local church, including teacher, treasurer, and secretary. She enjoyed line dancing, dominoes, traveling and reading Louis L’Amour books, which she had the full library of hard back books. She also loved mysteries, murders and intrigue.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jim Wall of Lufkin; granddaughter, Jody Wall Choate of Lufkin; great-granddaughter, Kristyn and Justin Terry of Lufkin; great-great granddaughter, Tatum Terry and Peyton Terry of Lufkin; sisters-in-law, Nita Sweat and Gwen Allen; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends “42”, Nelda Childress, Alma Jones, Dolores Behannon and Peggy Grimes.

Billy and Margie were married in 1947 and in 1991, Billy died of a brain tumor. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Bill and Florence (Ashby) Allen; sisters, Pat Sims, Mary Ellen Haley, Mildred Duncan, Doris Marshall, Lavern Hamilton and Billie Reed; and brother, Bobby Glen Allen.

Margie’s family wishes to extend special thanks to Harbor Hospice and her ICU nurses at CHI for the excellent care shown to her.

Margie expressed her desire for no flowers. She believed in giving money to someone you know that may be in need of a meal, a bill paid, someplace to stay a night, or contributions to the Gann Cemetery Association.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to service time on Tuesday afternoon at the funeral home.
