Services for Lila Pyle, 89, of Apple Springs, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2016 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor James Durham officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Apple Springs.
Lila was born November 20, 1926 in Etoile, Texas to Amos Jefferson Cook and Etta Mae Morton Cook. She passed away Saturday, November 5, 2016 in Livingston.
She grew up in Etoile and started her family there with Johnnie Albert Wooten and her three children, Alfred Kenneth, Lawson Lenn, and Edwin Cordell Wooten. She moved to Houston in 1950 where she met and married her husband of 48 years, Clarence Lee Pyle in December of 1952. She worked in several different bakeries there before returning to Lufkin. Lila and Clarence owned and operated the City Bakery in Lufkin for over 20 years before they retired to Apple Springs in 1997. She was a dedicated and active member of the Eastern Star until her health started failing.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Etta Mae and Amos Cook; husband, Clarence; sons, Alfred Kenneth Wooten, Edwin Cordell Wooten; grandsons, Lee Weston Wooten and Ronnie Wooten; and brother, Hoyt Cook.
She is survived by her son, Lawson and wife Carolyn of Richmond, Texas; sister, Doris Cook of Marietta Oklahoma; brothers, Wayne and Neal Cook of Etoile, Texas; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
