Johnnie was born September 11, 1917 in San Augustine, Texas. Johnnie married Ed Davis of Apple Springs, Texas and resided on their farm there until Ed passed away. Afterwards, she and her daughter, Jo Ann, moved to Lufkin.
As a beautician in Lufkin, Johnnie loved visiting with her clients, telling funny stories and hearing of the current news in Lufkin.
Johnnie’s passion was playing bridge and there her competitive spirit emerged. Her passion took her many places traveling for competitions and actively playing in multiple bridge clubs in and around Lufkin. When not playing bridge or spending time with her family, Johnnie traveled throughout the US and overseas, enjoying the experiences that life had to offer. As an avid gardener she loved the outdoors and was a member of the Lufkin Hemerocallis Society. Johnnie was a long time member of Lufkin’s First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sister, Benny Manley of Tyler; the light of her life, her daughter, Jo Ann and spouse, David Taylor of Bryan, granddaughter, Kathryn Chiles and spouse, Rusty; and great-grandson, Braden, of Houston.
Johnnie was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Davis; sisters, Opal Philmon, Paula Mulcahy, Dagma Flowers; and her many friends that she missed dearly.
A celebration of Johnnie’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 5202 South First Street, Lufkin, TX 75901. Family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service at 11:00.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in honor of those that cared for her at the non-profit, Hospice Brazos Valley, 502 West 26th Street, Bryan, Texas 77803.
