Mr. Curry was born in Diboll and graduated from Diboll High School in 1949. He married Maggie Athalea McClelland in 1950 and moved to Houston in 1951, where he attended the University of Houston. He worked for radio and television. He worked for Texas Instruments for 10 years and then worked for the U. S. Treasury until 1981 as a sky marshall and in customs. He also worked at Space Craft, Inc. as an electrician. He was a design engineer and developed stress analyzers for F-14 aircraft. He started his own business in electronics design, Joe Curry & Son Electronics. He moved back to Lufkin in 1998. Mr. Curry was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Survivors include his son, Joseph Edward Curry, Jr. and wife Patricia M. of Spring; grandson, Christopher E. Curry of Houston; granddaughters, Elissa M. Clark of Houston and Kristen E. Clark of Temple; and a number of other family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Curry was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Athalea McClelland Curry; brothers, James T. Curry and Marion C. Curry, Jr.; and sisters, Gladys Kimball, Marian C. Snow, and Frances Nelson.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2012 in the Ryan Chapel United Methodist Church in Diboll. Interment will follow in the Ryan Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday at Ryan Chapel United Methodist Church.
