Jimmy (as he was known) was born in Tyler, Texas on December 29, 1931 to Beulah (Tracy) and Ray Horn. He passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016 in a local hospice facility surrounded by his family.
The family moved to Lufkin when Jimmy was in the 7th grade. He graduated from Lufkin High School in 1949. During high school, he ran track, was on the tennis team and was a cheerleader his senior year. He attended the University of Texas, where he was a member of Theta Xi Fraternity. He then transferred to North Texas and received his degree in Business in January 1955. He served in the military in the early years of the Nike guided missile program and was a charter member of the Senior Kiwanis Club.
Jimmy retired at the age of 60 as Sales Manager of Lufkin Trailers after 35 years of service. He and Jane were charter members of Christ Congregational Church. He was a loving husband of 56 years to his wife Jane and a devoted dad to his children.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Horn of Lufkin; son, Stacy Horn and wife Brenda of Houston; daughter, Luanne Humphrey and husband Bruce of Katy; granddaughters, Kensley and Riley of College Station; and sister-in-law, Lucile Weeks of Lufkin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Max Rucker, Roy Johnston, Billy Vaughn Jim Odom, and David Bishop.
Memorial contributions in Jimmy’s memory may be made to Christ Congregational Church, 105 Saddle Creek Drive, Lufkin, TX 75904; or to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, TX 75904.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the funeral home.
