Services for James A. Holt, Sr., 80, of Lufkin, will be held at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, February 26, 2015 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Jimmy Hedges officiating. Interment will follow in the Ryan Chapel Cemetery in Diboll.
Mr. Holt was born November 5, 1934, the son of the late Georgia Lee (Going) and James Alton Holt. He passed away Monday, February 23, 2015 in a local hospital.
Mr. Holt was born in Martinsville. He graduated high school in Nacogdoches and attended 4 years of business college in Nacogdoches. He served his country in the United States Air Force from January 1, 1955 to October 28, 1958 as an aircraft mechanic and machinist. He started Holt’s Machine Shop and operated it for 31 years. Mr. Holt wanted to thank his customers for their business for those 31 years. He worked with Master Builders building church buildings for 7 years. He enjoyed woodwork and watching deer from his back porch. He also loved raising cattle. He was a Christian and of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his son, James A. Holt, Jr. and his wife Judy of Marshall; daughter, Marian Holt of Lufkin; grandchildren, Desiree Marlana Holt, Brandy Holt, Alicia Murphy, Sabrina Clonts, and Melanie Rowls; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brother, Paul Holt of Odessa; ex-wife, Myrtle Marie (Holt) Moore; and a of other family members.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Holt was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy (Dottie) Kaklie.
Pallbearers will be Weston Conner, Trevor Reppond, Kyle Ethridge, Joseph Lupo, Travis Reppond, and James Lynn Williams.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
