Memorial services for Howard Ross, 89, of Lufkin, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2014 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Walter Futch and Jim McDonald, minister, officiating. Inurnment will follow at a later date in Skyline Memorial Park in Monee, Illinois.
Mr. Ross was born January 3, 1925 in Mecca, Indiana, the son of the late Edna (Stewart) and Everett Ross. He passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014 in a local hospital.
Mr. Ross was a devoted husband and father. He was retired from Northern Indiana Public Service where he worked as a utility man. He served his country in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was a member of First Christian Church in Mecca, Indiana and of the Harvey Masonic Lodge in Harvey, Illinois. He served as their Master of the Lodge in 1970.
Survivors include his beloved wife of more than 70 years, Maxine Ross of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Jan Ross of Pasadena; daughter, Carole Ross of Pasadena; sisters-in-law, Lorna “Deanie” Rector of Farmersburg, Indiana and Jane Rector of Bedford; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ross was preceded in death by his grandparents.
