Services for Henry Charles Riggs, 79, of Many, Louisiana, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2016 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend James Guay officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Riggs was born December 31, 1936 in Burnet, Texas, the son of the late Juanita (McGuire) and Oscar Riggs. He passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016 in Shreveport.
Mr. Riggs was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He graduated high school in Missouri City, Texas and attended the University of Houston. He was an accident investigator for the Houston Police Department for 5 years. He married Brenda Sullivan on November 19, 1969. He was a draftsman for Wilson Industries in Houston, was a CPA for H & R Block, owned and operated a hardware and automotive center in Many, Louisiana, and enjoyed working.
Mr. Riggs loved his family; his wife and children were his life. He enjoyed playing the guitar, and helping others, and working in his store. He was a genuine person, made you feel special, and took the time to listen to you. He was never too busy to care. He was of the Baptist Faith and was a member of the Broaddus Masonic Lodge #1112, A.F. & A.M.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Riggs of Many, Louisiana; son, Robert Lee Riggs of Many, Louisiana; daughter, Wendy Nicole Riggs of Many, Louisiana; son, Randy Riggs of Gatesville; son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Lisa Riggs of Broaddus; grandchildren, Calvin Riggs, Tiffany Riggs, Brittany Riggs, Riley Riggs, and Landri Riggs; great-grandchildren, Shaelyn Begley and Kennedi Riggs; sisters, Gwendalyn Priest, Ruthie Baird, Bernadette Lea and Cydney Alexandria; special niece, Michelle Daugherty; close friend, Floyd “Froggy” Windfield; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Riggs was preceded in death by his brothers, Lester Riggs, Leslie Riggs, Jim Riggs and Oscar Riggs, Jr.; and sisters, Dottie Franklin and Betty Sullivan.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Wallace, Richard Dominey, John Wayne Sullivan, Erik Lewis, Lee Daugherty, Ben Culbertson, and Troy Culbertson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Thacker, Jr. and Brenton Riggs.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Broaddus Masonic Lodge, A.F. & A.M. #1112, P. O. Box 536, Broaddus, TX 75929.
