Hayden was born October 2, 1923 in Angelina County, Texas, the son of the late Nedie Emily (Carr) and William Tom Capps. He passed away Thursday, October 11, 2018 in a local nursing facility.
Hayden proudly served his country in the European Theater of WWII during the V-Day invasion of the Normandy Beaches. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a welder for the Livingston Shipyard and a member of the Boiler Makers Union. Hayden was a life-time member of the VFW.
His deep love of nature, beekeeping, fishing, hunting and gardening will be remembered by all of his family and friends.
Survivors include his son, Dean Capps of Port Neches; daughter, Sherry Capps Heimbach of Hot Springs, Arkansas; 5 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and sister, Carolyn Elliott of Houston.
In addition to his parents, Hayden was preceded in death by his wife, Nelda Fae Lowery; his eldest son, Hayden Gene Capps and wife Beverly Smith; 7 brothers; and 5 sisters.
The family wishes to thank the staffs of Parkwood in the Pines and Heart to Heart Hospice for their love and attention.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Wednesday morning at the funeral home.
