Doug was born in Houston, TX, and spent his childhood in Lufkin, TX. In middle school his family moved to Benton, Arkansas. By age 16, Doug achieved the honor of Eagle Scout. He graduated Benton High School one year early and went on to attend The University of Texas at Austin, where he studied Aerospace Engineering, Business Management and Computer Science. Doug was an active member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, serving as rush captain and pledge trainer.
Doug had an entrepreneurial spirit and pursued a lifelong career in commercial real estate. He acquired over 3000 apartment units early in his career, built multiple buildings, including a 14,000 square foot restaurant that still stands in Katy, TX.
He enjoyed coaching Bellaire Little League and Bellaire youth soccer. Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking time away to restore and take solace in nature.
He loved the sea, and he especially loved to sail. He served as board member to Seabrook Sailing Club and after Hurricane Ike in 2008, he was instrumental in building the new Seabrook Sailing Club Clubhouse. During the last decade of his life, his greatest joy was taking his family and friends sailing on Galveston Bay aboard his sailboat, Rascal.
Above all, Doug loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He faithfully served as deacon at Second Baptist Church for over 20 years.
A family graveside service was held on Friday, July 28th at the Garden of Memories in Lufkin, TX.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 10:00 a.m Tuesday, August 15, 2023 in the Woodway Chapel of the Second Baptist Church, 6400 Woodway, Houston, TX 77057, with a reception immediately following at the home he shared with his wife, Beverly.
