

Mr. Haines was retired from the United States Air Force following 22 years of service to his country. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. While in the Air Force, he was awarded several medals, including the Presidential Unit Citation and the Bronze Star. He loved airplanes, was a licensed commercial pilot and enjoyed flying his Cherokee 140. He also enjoyed designing, building and flying remote control airplanes. He loved traveling, fishing, and being outdoors. Following retirement from the Air Force, he was a merchandiser for several department stores, including Perry Bros., Dollar General, and Woolco. He also owned and operated Tidy Car of Lufkin for 12 years. Mr. Haines was a member of Harmony Hill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Connie Haines of Lufkin (they were married on December 24, 1955); sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sherri Haines of Lufkin and Danny and Terri Haines of Bullard; daughters and sons-in-law, Lynne and Darin Perkins and Emily and John Cavanaugh, all of Lufkin; grandsons, Caleb Haines, Ryan Haines, Dane Perkins and Eric Cavanaugh; granddaughters, Elise Cavanaugh and Hannah White; sisters, Christine Carter and Farriel Warner; brothers, Claude "Butch" Haines and Roland Haines; and a number of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Haines was preceded in death by his sisters, Lucille Taylor and Claudine Crestman; and brothers, Oscar Haines and William Haines.
Active pallbearers will be Ryan Haines, John Cavanaugh, Darin Perkins and Glen White.
Honorary pallbearers will be Caleb Haines, Gordon White, and Harry Ain.
Services for Mr. Haines will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 19, 2010 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. John Greene officiating. Interment will follow in the Stryker Cemetery in Corrigan.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
