Services for Fate W. Murphy will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2016 in the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 5205 S. First Street, Lufkin, TX with Bro. Larry Innerarity officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Fate W. Murphy was born in the Huntington, Texas community of Oak Flat on December 6, 1927, to Violet Morehouse Murphy and Willie James Murphy. He passed away on October 7, 2016 in Lufkin.
He enlisted in the army of the United States at age 17 and served from September 1945 to October 1947. He retired in 1987 from the Lufkin Paper Mill after more than forty years of employment. He enjoyed photography, making home movies, reading newspapers, going to First Monday Trade Days, and most of all, visiting with family and friends. He never met a stranger.
He was an enthusiastic problem solver who never shied away from a task. He loved helping family, friends, and strangers and had a loving and generous heart.
He leaves behind a daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Will Rodriguez; special nephews, Jerry Morehouse, Michael Murphy and Calvin Murphy; special nieces, Carolyn Rogers, Patsy Shattuck, and Lauren Strock; sisters-in-law; Evelyn Smith and Frankie Karrh; good friends, J. D. Crouch and Stanley Beck; and many other relatives and friends; beloved pets, Clementine, Peaches, Tinker, Lucy and Rhodie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Tomma Loftin Murphy; and brother, Charles Glen Murphy.
Honorary pallbearers are nieces, nephews and good friends.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
