Darruth was born October 30, 1946 in Houston, TX, and passed away May 29, 2015 at a local nursing facility. She was the daughter of the late Garthie Hallie (Mathews) and Lee Rufus Burnett.
Darruth lived most of her life in Lufkin. She was a 1965 graduate of Lufkin High School, where she played clarinet and was a twirler in the band. She worked 35 plus years for Gibbs Insurance and Angelina College in the Distance Learning program. She loved life and never met a stranger. As other family members, she was a good bowler and her father was President of the Bowling Association. Darruth was a long time member of Cross Road Baptist Church.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Taylor and Denise Russell of Burleson; grandchildren, Rebecca and John Russell; sister and brother-in-law, Marsha and Jim Lock of Houston; sister-in-law, Judy Burnett of Katy; niece, Rachael Burnett; nephew, Randall Burnett and wife, Melinda Burnett; grand-nephew, Maxwell Burnett; special friend, Mel Schmidt; and other relatives.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Garthie Burnett; infant daughter, Karen Russell; husbands, Billy McGaughey and Ray Russell; and brother, Stacey Burnett.
Pallbearers are Jack Jumper, Bobby McGaughey, Johnny Johnson, Scott Stanford, Chris Sidnell and Corey Beasley.
Honorary pallbearer is David Middleton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the operating account at Crossroads Baptist Church, 5714 Old Union Road, Lufkin, TX 75904.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday
evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
