He went on to marry Joyce Smith on July 4, 1962. Larry achieved his Master’s degree in Administration, Art and Journalism. He taught school in Katy, Texas for 9 years. He retired from Diboll ISD; he was the Special Education Director for Angelina County. During his professional career, he was recognized, statewide and nationally, as one of the foremost authorities in Special Education Laws and Regulations. He also retired from the City of Diboll as Civic Center Director. Larry was the owner of the Timberland Theatre in Diboll from 1970 – 1989. He was also an Alamo Defender Descendant and very proud to be a Texan. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Smith Bowman of Diboll; daughters, Shawna Bowman, Dawna Flowers and husband James of Diboll; grandsons, Timothy Lowman, Thoren and Ramses Flowers, all of Diboll, Ben McClendon, of Lufkin; granddaughter, Kether Flowers of Lufkin; great-grandchildren, Morgan and Alric Harris of Lufkin; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Billy and Karen Bowman of Montgomery; sisters-in-law, Doris Bowman of Lufkin, Virginia Smith of Batesville, Arkansas; special friends, Ed and Jeronee Dibbens family of Conroe, Jim and Sheri Lenderman family of Lufkin, and Danny Ray of Bullard; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Bob Bowman of Lufkin; and sister, Dicy Cunninghan of Plano.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening, April 26, 2019 at Gipson Funeral Home. A private burial will be held with family later.
