Services for Dorothy Carr, 93, of Wells, TX, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2014 in Sherwood, AR. As a Christian, Dorothy has victory over death and is enjoying eternal life in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Dorothy was born to the late Frank and Bethel Manley on January 6, 1921 in Pollok, TX. She married Howard Carr in 1946 and was blessed with two children. She spent her early adult years in Nederland, TX, where for twenty years, as a dessert chef, the students of Nederland High School enjoyed the benefits of her expert pastry and dessert cooking skills. Dorothy also enjoyed cooking Southern comfort food, crocheting and dancing, as well as playing Bingo and dominoes. She was an avid reader; the Bible being her favorite book. She was described by her granddaughter as “the sweetest southern lady I’ve ever met. I’ve never heard her say an angry or harsh word about anyone.”
Dorothy is survived by her two sons, Wallace (Toni) Carr of Lebanon, PA and Thomas (Marsha) Carr of Sherwood, AR, as well as her granddaughter, Candace Carr of Little Rock, AR. She was also “Grandma” to Matthew Butler and Lisa (Jesse) Zakrzewski and “Great Grandma” to Emma, Isaac and Brooklyn Zakrzewski, all of Sherwood, AR. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Dorothy in death are her brother, Douglas Manley and sisters, Catherine Godwin, Alice White, Marie Crawford and Gertrude (Trudy) Carr.
The family will host a visitation at Gipson Funeral Home in Lufkin, on Sunday, February 2, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 3, 2014 at Gipson Funeral Home with Pastor Horace Fletcher officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Wells, TX.
