Doris Lowery, 83, of Zavalla, was born March 28, 1929 in Chester, Texas, the daughter of the late Burton Louella (Parker) and Justus Reynolds. She passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2012 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Lowery was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She especially enjoyed being around her grandchildren and being involved in school activities. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and shopping sprees. She always worked elections in her community, and enjoyed driving the school bus. Mrs. Lowery was a member of First Baptist Church in Zavalla.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Noland Smart of Zavalla and Joyce and James Rosser of Holly Lake Ranch; grandsons, Scott Creel, Jeff Creel and Wesley Smart; granddaughters, Kasey Smart, Hannah Rosser and Abigail Rosser; great-grandsons, Justus Creel and Jeffery Creel; brother, Thomas Reynolds; sister, Wanda "Ladybug" Cole; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roy and Vera Lowery; sister-in-law, Dorothy Dorsett; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Doris and Grant Mitchell; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leonard and Jeanette Hunt; and a number of other family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lowery was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Lowery; son, C. J. Creel; sister, Gladys Young; brothers-in-law, W. M. Lowery, Glen Lowery and Kenneth Lowery; and sister-in-law, Linda Reynolds.
Pallbearers will be Wiley Mott, Wayne Atwood, Keith Wright, Wayne Oliver, Scott Dodson, Tommy Carrell, J. O. Grimes, and John Ray Edmons.
Memorial contributions in Mrs. Lowery's memory may be made to Zavalla Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 73, Zavalla, Texas 75980.
Services for Mrs. Lowery will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2012 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Jacob Fitzgerald and Dr. John Wood officiating. Interment will follow in the Zavalla Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
