Services for Donald W. Young, 80, of Lufkin, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2017 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Kenneth Young and Reverend Robert Saxton officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Young was born January 31, 1937 in Pollok, Texas, the son of the late Opal Mae (Jordan) and G. W. “Buck” Young. He passed away Monday, May 29, 2017 in the Houston VA Hospital.
Mr. Young was a loving son, brother, friend and cousin. He was career military, serving his country in the United States Marines from 1954 to 1974. After retiring, he lovingly became a taxi service for his family and friends, driving anyone that needed a ride.
Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Deborah Young; sister and brother-in-law, Linda (Few) and Bruce James; brothers, Bill Young, Bob Young and wife Elaine and David Young; “adopted family”, Hester Perry, Tyra Swint, Robin Griffin, Minnie Pearl, Tyranya Hamilton, Sha ‘Tyra Woodson, Paris Alexander, and Hermunii Daniels; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Young was preceded in death by his brother, James L. Few, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Young, Steve Young, Bruce Jarvis, Landon Allen, Casey Crustner, and James L. Few III.
Honorary pallbearers will be Travis Wade Ellis and Mark Young.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
