Services for Don Ray Chamblee, 78, of Huntington, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2019 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Martin Doran and Jay Thornton officiating. Interment will follow in the Huntington Oddfellow Cemetery.
Don was born April 8, 1941 in Lufkin, Texas, the son of the late Finice (Nerren) and Wesley Chamblee. He passed away Thursday, June 27, 2019 in a Wells nursing facility.
Don was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and grandfather. He was retired from Texas Forest Service. He was a jack of all trades and enjoyed riding his tractor, mowing and taking care of his garden. Don proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 4 years.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Rita Chamblee of Huntington; sons, James Chamblee, Donald Chamblee and Ricky Chamblee, all of Huntington; sister, Bobbie Smith of Huntington; sister-in-law, Marlene Chamblee of Huntington; grandsons, Ray Chamblee and wife Crystal of New Caney, Mason Chamblee of Lexington, Kentucky, and Jackson Chamblee of Corrigan; great-grandson, Cooper Chamblee of New Caney, and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Chamblee.
Pallbearers will be Ray Chamblee, Mason Chamblee, Jackson Chamblee, Kerwin Smith, Wes Wesley, and Jase Berry.
Don’s family wishes to extend special thanks to the staffs of Wells Nursing Home and Affinity Hospice.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
