David Lee Mitchell, 78, of Lufkin, Texas, passed away on November 29, 2024, surrounded by loved ones at his residence in Lufkin. He was born on September 24, 1946, in Angelina County, to Ralph and Agnes Mitchell.
David was predeceased by his father, Ralph Mitchell; his mother, Agnes Mitchell; his beloved wife, Nancy Lorretta Green Mitchell; his brother, Robert Grant Mitchell; and his sister-in-law, Doris Mitchell.
He is survived by his son, David Allen Mitchell; daughter, Donna Renea Mitchell; and daughter-in-law, Lena J. Mitchell. David is also survived by his grandchildren, Pat and Lisa Mitchell, Connie and Jackie Hammond, and Chelsey and John Flannery, as well as his great-grandchild, James Croteau. He is further survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Freeman, and numerous nieces and nephews.
David Lee married Nancy Lorretta Green in Lufkin, Texas, in 1965. Together, they built their forever home, where they lived, loved, and raised their family. David dedicated his life to his family, and his love for them was unwavering. Their home was filled with laughter, hard work, and memories that will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
David Lee attended Lufkin High School and shortly after enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served aboard the USS Regal (AF 58). He was honorably discharged in 1968 and returned home to begin a life of dedication to his work and family.
A skilled carpenter and wood shaper, David worked on countless homes in the Lufkin area. There wasn’t a road he didn’t touch, a house he didn’t help build. His craftsmanship and work ethic left an enduring mark on the community, and he was always proud to call Lufkin home. Beyond his professional accomplishments, David loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry—something he was passionate about and took great pride in.
David’s family and friends remember him as a compassionate, stubborn, loving, and thoughtful man. He was never one to hesitate in helping a friend or family member in need. He would drop whatever he was doing to lend a hand, and his generosity was unmatched. He instilled a deep sense of responsibility and work ethic in everyone he met. David was the strong patriarch of the Mitchell family, and his wisdom, strength, and love will forever be cherished by all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held at Gipson Funeral Home on December 1, 2024, with interment to follow at Fielder Cemetery in Lufkin, Texas.

David Lee Mitchell will always have a special place in our hearts. The memories we shared with him are cherished, and his presence will be dearly missed.
David spent his last day with family and friends. May he rest in peace.
