Daniel M. Newburn

Daniel McLain Newburn, Jr., 82, of Lufkin, the son of the late Ruby Azaline (Booth) and Daniel Newburn, Sr., was born in Mobile, Alabama, May 23, 1929 and was raised by his mother and step-father, the late Jeff Johnston. He passed away June 18, 2011 in a local hospital.

Mr. Newburn was a procurement officer with the Texas Highway Department and retired in 1990. He was a member of Herty Baptist Church. He previously was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Newburn served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather to his family.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Charlcie Newburn of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Danielle Gorman and Butch, Teresa Oliver and Glynn, Pamela Jones and John; and special son, Jack Lee; granddaughter and husband, Brandi Stevens and Bobby; grandson and wife, Brant Lee and April; granddaughter, Jennifer Johnston; grandson, Kody Jones; step-granddaughters, Jacqueline Jones and Kelsey Jones; step-grandsons, Dan Gorman and wife, Deborah, Mark Gorman and wife, Liz and Zachary Oliver and wife, Michelle; and step-grandson, Carson Oliver; great-grandchildren, Rylee, Croft, Camryn, Madison, Gavin, Max, Ella, Matthew, Trent and Ayden; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-grandson, Cody Oliver; sisters, Margie Wilt and Imogene Cooper; brothers, Charles "Sonny" Newburn and Tommy Johnston.

Pallbearers will be Gary Crain, Jimmy Ford, David Bowley, Marvin Slusher, Randy Rowland and Hershel Shoemaker.

Services for Mr. Newburn will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Horace Fletcher, Rev. Robert Elliott and Rev. Jimmy Hedges officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
