Betty Jo Walker

Services for Betty Jo Walker, 84, of Lufkin, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2013 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Garland Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Ivie Cemetery in Nogalus Prairie.

Mrs. Walker was born April 14, 1928 in Haskell, Texas, the daughter of the late Lora Alabama (Parsons) and Tom Sam Farris. She passed away Monday, January 7, 2013 in a local nursing facility.

Mrs. Walker was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She thoroughly loved and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member at Victory Assembly of God Church. She also enjoyed traveling with her sisters, husband and church family.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen Kay Thompson and husband Stephen of Mooringsport, Louisiana; son, Danny Joe Walker and wife Lynn of Cotulla, Texas; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Walker of Georgetown, Texas; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sammie Wade, Georgia Warren and Bobbie Reese; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and John Paul Shoemaker; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William "Bill" Walker; son, William Dale Walker; brother, Odell Farris; sisters, Lavelle Ivy and Eunice Carter.

Pallbearers will be Shane Dickerson, Wesley Shoemaker, Kirk Devore, Jimmy Lee Hembree, Melvin Hollis and John Paul Shoemaker.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Melanie Devore, Sammie Wade, Mary Jane Hembree, Helen and Garland Baker, Mary Beth Shoemaker, Hospice in the Pines staff, Dr. Carlton Lewis and Parkwood Place Nursing Home staff for the outstanding care and compassion they have shown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Walker's memory may be made to Victory Assembly of God Church, 1405 S. Chestnut, Lufkin, Texas 75901; or to the Children's Medical Center, 2350 Stemmons Freeway (I-35E), Dallas, Texas 75207, in the name of Kendall Grace Eddings.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Gipson Funeral Home.
