Betty Jean Harris

Funeral service for Betty Jean Harris, 88, of Zavalla, Texas will be held at 11AM on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home, with Brian Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Zavalla Cemetery.

Mrs. Harris was born April 26, 1935 in Gadsden, Alabama, daughter of the late Evie Hammonds and A.F. Morgan. She passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024 in a local hospital.

Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She attended and graduated from Emma Sansom High School, Gadsden, Alabama. She worked at Zavalla Supply for 40 years. Betty was a very active person. She loved flowers, and enjoyed gardening. She also enjoyed political conversations.

Survivors include sons, Chick Harris and wife, Janis of Huntington, Craig Harris of Zavalla; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Ray Morgan of Port Arthur; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Harris; close friend Jim Smith; sons, Stephen Harris, Jimmy Harris; sisters, Victoria Reagan, Barbara Morris, Nira Strain, Joyce Kelly; and brother, Lamar Morgan.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Harris, Lucas Harris, Showden Harris, Brian Harris, Chick Harris, and Craig Harris.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Services have been placed in the trust of Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home.
