Services for A. Gerald Davis, 80, of Huntington, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 29, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Zavalla, with Bro. Jacob Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Davis was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He reached his home in Heaven on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, following a brief illness.
Gerald was born in Jena, Louisiana on November 25, 1931 to Archie and Jewell Davis. He graduated from Jena High School in 1950, at which time he began his ministry. He graduated from Louisiana College in 1954 and went on to attend seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Gerald lived his life in service to the Lord, pastoring several churches in Louisiana and Texas, including four in Angelina County. He ministered at Woodlawn Baptist Church, Westwood Baptist Church, Bald Hill Baptist Church, and New Bethel Baptist Church. When health no longer allowed him to pastor, he concluded his ministry as an active member of Zavalla's First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marie Davis of Huntington; daughter, Brenda Stogner and husband George of Huntington; sons, Norman Davis and wife Genny of Covington, Louisiana, Kenneth Davis and wife Toni of Brazoria, Texas, Alan Davis and wife Brenda of Denham Springs, Louisiana, and James Davis and wife Loretta of Beaumont; grandchildren, Laura Baker (Bradley) and son Caleb; Lisa Guevara and daughters Cady and Kaylee; Norman Davis, Jr. and Lenora Davis; Brittany Scherzinger (Andy) and son Jaden; Morgan Pittman (Travis); Kristen Davis of Lufkin; Scott Davis and Alaina Davis; Madison Davis and Meredith Davis; sister, Thalia Hailey (Earl) and family; as well as other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
