Richard F. Strong, 93 passed away Sunday October 11, 2015 at the Gill Odd Fellows Home, Ludlow. Richard was born in Newport, NH April 10, 1922 the son of Frank and Fannie (Roundy) Strong.
Richard Grew Up in Ludlow where he attended schools and afterwards enlisted with the United States Army. He was a Veteran of WWII having served with Company E, 379th Infantry Regiment. He received his Honorable Discharge as a Staff Sergeant November 21, 1945. He was married to his wife of 72 years, Gladys ”Bunny” (Paige) Strong. Richard had worked in the Woolen Mills in Ludlow retiring in 1984. Richard was active in town politics and had served as the Water Commissioner for the Town of Ludlow for 60 years where he was honored for being one of the longest serving public servants. He was a 70 year member of the Ludlow American Legion Post #36 and a member of the V.F.W. Richard was also a member and Director of the Black River Rod and Gun Club. He was an Avid Hunter, Fisherman and Red Socks and Patriots Fan.
His family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Gill Odd Fellows Home for the care they provided their father.
Richard is survived by his two daughters, Kathleen “Trina O’Loughlin of Fairview, Texas, Jean Strong of Ludlow, VT; His son, Jeffery Strong and his wife Lisa of Perkinsville, his 7 Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great Grandson and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Gladys “Bunny “Strong on July 7, 2015.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday Oct. 16, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Church of the Annunciation, Ludlow, VT. Graveside committal services and interment with military honors will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Ludlow. A reception will follow the graveside service at the Ludlow American Legion.
