Lynn Marie (Hammond) Smith, age 65, passed away Monday, January 22, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Lynn, originally from Windsor, spent most of her life in Ludlow, Vermont and is survived by her husband, John Smith, sons Jeremy and Zach Smith, grandchildren Eliana and Dylan Smith, siblings Sherry Abbey, Dale Hammond and Dawn Counihan, and several nieces and nephews who adored her.
Lynn was born on September 15, 1952 to Davis Hammond and Geraldine McSwain. She met her future husband at the University of Vermont before transferring and graduating from Webber College. When Lynn transferred to Webber, John and Lynn wrote each other constantly before deciding they were meant for each other. They married on August 25th, 1973 and settled on East Hill in Ludlow, VT. Lynn worked at Black River Produce for 15 years before retiring in 2001 to move to the couple’s dream home in South Florida.
Lynn was a dedicated Christian, voracious reader, avid gardener and talented athlete, but most of all she was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend. She loved big family gatherings, spending time with her siblings and their families, and being there for her two kids. Her kindness knew no bounds, and you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who had a bad thing to say about her. Her smile could light up a room and she truly made the life of everyone around her better. She was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s in 2006 and battled for 11 long years. She will be missed, never forgotten, and always loved by those she touched.
Visiting hours will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Friday January 26th at Adams Funeral Home, 12 Meadow Street in Ludlow. A funeral is scheduled for 11am Saturday, January 27th at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, 7 North Depot Street in Ludlow. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org. The family would like to thank Sullivan County Health Care & Nursing Home for their dedication and care.
