Woody Lee Wood, 82, of Lubbock, passed away Monday, Oct. 11, 2011. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm. Friday, Oct. 14, at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel, with Pastor Ken Horn officiating. Visitation will be from 5pm to 7 p.m. today, at Resthaven Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
Woody was born January 14, 1929, in Port Lavaca, TX to John Allen and Virginia (Lesley) Wood, and grew up in Smyer. He served in the military as a cryptographic specialist from 1951-1956 and was honorably discharged. Woody married his best friend and the love of his life, Wanda Jeanette, on July 24, 1951, in Lovington, N.M., and together they were successful farmers in the cotton industry.
Woody is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Wanda Jeanette, and sisters Margaret Smith and June Robertson.
sons, Duggan and wife Brenda Wood of Lubbock, Steve Wood of Waco, Larry and wife Ingrid Wood of Lakewood Village, John and wife Julia Diane Wood of Midland, and Richard and wife Donna Wood of Lovington, N.M.; grandchildren, Shana and husband Johnny Waldron, Angela and husband Damon Held, Alec Wood, Constance Wood and Tyler Temperton, Amber and husband Michael Evans, Stormy Wood, Hayden Wood, Justin Peppin, Jonathan Peppin and wife Yesi; great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Charli Garland, Sawyer Waldron, Riley and Keegan Kirkland, Zachary, Zoey, and Piper Evans, Bentley Cooper, Jayden Peppin, and Alexia Peppin; his sisters, Clara and Brother-in-law Glen Roberts. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Virginia Wood; daughters-in-law, Jenny Wood and Michelle Wood; and brothers, Virgil and Doug Wood.
