Winnie Hudspeth, 91, was born October 23, 1919 in Iowa Park, Texas and died at Carillon House December 29, 2010. She was the daughter of William Frederick and Rosa Belle Hiesermann. She moved with her family to San Juan, Texas in 1933, graduating from Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School in 1938. Winnie attended Edinburg Jr. College for two years and graduated from Texas A&I College in Kingsville in 1942 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. Winnie worked at the Naval Base in Corpus Christi and in San Juan as a secretary. She married Elmer B. Hudspeth, Jr. on January 24, 1947. Winnie and Elmer moved to Lubbock in 1951. She had been a homemaker for almost 64 years.
Winnie was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and was active in the Carillon Retirement Community since 1998. Her hobbies included bridge, card games, needlework, traveling, fishing, and playing golf on occasion. Over the years, she and Elmer had traveled to every state in the Union.
She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Elmer B. Hudspeth, Jr.; two sons, Gary B. of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Gregg W. of Atlanta, Georgia; one daughter, Marsha K. Aston and her husband, Junior of Plano, Texas; one grandson, Trey Aston of College Station, Texas; one sister, Mabel Shotwell of Mercedes, Texas; and several special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her older sister, Lucille Schwarz of Harlingen, and older brother Rowell Hiesermann of San Juan, Texas.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Viewing will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock on Thursday, December 30 between 5:00 and 7:00 PM. Services will be at 10:00 AM, Friday December 31 in the Abbey Chapel at Resthaven Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
