Joe was born February 2, 1923 in Van Alstyne, Texas to Miles E. and Iva (Greenway) Garrison. His formative years were spent growing up in Lubbock. It was during this time Joe was introduced to and learned the construction trade working with his father and brothers. With the outbreak of World War II, Joe enlisted with the US Air Force. Upon his honorable discharge, Joe returned to Lubbock where he began his professional career as a homebuilder. He married Jean Reynolds of Plainview, Texas on December 22, 1946. In October of 1954, Joe founded Pan-Tex Plywood & Lumber Co. and served as president of the company until his retirement in 1992.
Joe was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and provider. His love for family goes unmatched. Too, he loved the outdoors whether it was fishing, horseback riding, tending to a project or spending time with family and friends. Those left to mourn his passing are strengthened through his examples of life.
Joe is preceded in death by three brothers, David, Delbert, and Harold.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Jean; two sons Greg and wife Cecilia, Mark and wife Marlene; three grandsons, Brian, Scott and Brendan. He is also survived by four brothers, Miles, Jeff, Rusty, and Truett; two sisters, Margaret and Cora Lee.
The family wishes to offer special thanks to the caregivers of Raider Ranch and Wedgewood South. You were such a blessing to Joe in his daily activities and times of need.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Children’s Home of Lubbock, PO Box 2824, Lubbock, TX 79408 or The Salvation Army, 1111 16th Street, Lubbock, TX 79401
