on April 27, 1934 to Willard and Florence Moore near Tahoka, Texas.
He graduated from Tahoka High School in 1951 and from Texas Tech University in 1955 with a bachelor's degree in accounting before earning his CPA license.
In 1955, he married his wife, Opal Ruth Kingston. They had 2 sons, Mike and
Mark. Wendell was an inspiration to his sons and family; he was a kind, generous man who could
always be counted on to do the right thing. His giving heart can be described in scripture: "But he who
is kind and merciful to the needy honors Him” (Proverbs 14:31B, Amplified Classic Edition). His family
always saw him as the kind of person you'd want to be like.
In 1960, he joined the firm that would later become Pratas, Smith, and Moore after he became a partner in 1963. Wendell's professionalism, work ethic, and quality of his work were greatly appreciated by his many clients.
He was a quiet man who listened more than he talked, and a very dedicated disciple of Christ. A scripture that would describe him well is "He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8, NJKV), as Wendell fulfilled all of these. Wendell taught Sunday school for over 50 years, held Bible studies in his home, served as deacon and elder in his church communities, and counseled many. He and his family have attended Southcrest Baptist Church for over 25 years. He was well respected in the Lubbock business community and among fellow Christian believers, building a life and setting an example day by day.
Wendell served in several leadership positions, holding positions with the South Plains Chapter of Certified Public Accountants, the Texas State Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Texas Tech Tax Institute, the South Plains Trust and Estate Council, and was a member of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants Committee on Cooperation with Bankers and Bank Regulatory Authorities. In 2004, he retired as partner of Pratas, Smith, and Moore, continuing to serve as a consultant there until 2014.
Wendell is predeceased by his parents, his son Mark, and a brother James Adams Jr. He is survived by
his wife Ruth; his son Mike Moore and his wife Melinda; granddaughter Laura; grandson Randall and his
wife, Alieshia and their three daughters, Maliyah, Haivenne, and Kyrie, all of Lubbock; a special niece
Linda Gaunt and her husband Jeff; and his brothers Bill Moore, George Adams, Jerry Adams, and Robert
Adams.
