Beloved husband and father Weldon Eugene Hargis passed from this life on December 1, 2024. Weldon was born to Purk and May Hargis in Leonard, Texas on November 19, 1933. His family moved to Floydada where he attended high school and then moved to Lubbock in 1952. He married Joyce Allene Thrush on July 21, 1956. He proudly served for 43 years as a member of the Texas National Guard and the US Army Reserve reaching the esteemed rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. During this time he also served as a full-time civil service employee in those units.
Weldon became a Christian as a youth and was a member of Highland Baptist Church. He was ordained as a Deacon at age 27 and has served in many church activities throughout his life. In 1983, he and Joyce founded Exodus Prison Ministry that sent Bibles and Bible study books to thousands of inmates across the nation. Weldon served as a volunteer of that ministry from 1983 until his death. He was well known for helping others in whatever way he could.
Weldon was preceded in death by his parents Purk and May Hargis. He is survived by his wife Joyce and their children, Sheldon and Linda Hargis, Phillip and Diane Hargis, Sharon and Mitchell Armstrong. He is also survived by 6 beloved grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was greatly respected and loved by his sister Glenda Bailey McClain and sister-in-law the late Marita Reese.
