Vera Hightower

Vera Hightower, age 89, of Lubbock, Texas passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. Vera Faye Jackson was born on May 17, 1934, in Lorena, TX to Mr. & Mrs. Roscoe W. Jackson, Sr. She attended school in Lorena, Texas. She moved to Lubbock, Texas in 1951. She was added to the Church of Christ in 1954. She met David Hightower, Sr. and they married on March 8, 1957.

Vera was a faithful and dedicated employee of Frito Lay for 15 year; she retired in the late 1980’s due to health reasons. Vera was a faithful member of the Parkway Drive Church of Christ.

She is preceded in death by her parents Julie Mae Jackson and Roscoe Jackson; spouse David “Sugar” Hightower, Sr. siblings (Louise Hubbard, Clytee Jackson, Gladys Newhouse, Jewel Smith, Dixie Weaver, and Roscoe W. Jackson, Jr) and her son, David “Butterball” Hightower, Jr.

Survivors include her daughter: Toressa Hightower (Lubbock), LaRhonda (Orlin) Norris (Lubbock), and Mishane Hightower (Roundrock); sisters; Linda (Alvin) Jones, Shirley (Amos) Long, Lillian Pullen, and Mary (Wayne) Reed; Grandchildren: Anchestonique Norris and Shazay Norris; Great Grandchildren: Dasmine and Paxton Riggins; her best friend of over 65 years: Sister Ida Christman; Godson (A.C. Christman, Jr). Adopted daughter (Earnestine Fifer Gray); adopted son (Willie Hubbard, Jr). Special thanks to Rayfield and Grace Ann Johnson; Mabel Yates, and son, Kenneth Yates; and a host of friends and relatives.

A visitation for Vera will be held Friday, November 24, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home, 5740 West 19th St, Lubbock, TX 79407. A funeral service will occur Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Parkway Drive Church of Christ, 3120 Parkway Drive, Lubbock, TX 79403. A burial service will occur Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Resthaven Memorial Cemetery, 5740 West 19th St, Lubbock, TX 79407.
