He was born in Harris County Texas to Herbert Lang Crowder and Martha Florence (Gorman) Crowder.
Troy attended and graduated from Wellman High School. He was drafted to Active Military Service right out of high school stationed in the 16th Armored Engineer Battalion in Fort Hood, Texas serving 3 years. He was awarded with a National Defense Service Medal. He then enlisted in the United States Army Reserve serving 8 years before being honorably discharged in 1955, including a long list of accolades. He returned to Brownfield, Texas and eventually moved to Lubbock, Texas where he worked as a Director for the Federal Government including the Veteran's Administration for over 35 years.
Troy married Ava Vaughn on December 18th, 1964 in Lubbock, Texas. Troy and Ava were members of Broadway Church of Christ for the majority of their 59 years together. They did move their membership to Trinity Church for their remaining years. Troy was an active member of the Kiwana's Club as well as The American Parkinson's Disease Association for over 30 years.
Troy was an amazing husband who took care of Ava through the many years she had Parkinson's disease. Troy and Ava built a wonderful life. They had one daughter Ava Maria (Crowder) Martinez. She added ALOT of excitement to their life. They both enjoyed traveling and were blessed to be able to travel the world together.
Troy enjoyed cooking for his family, reading, oldies music and working outside in his garden. Troy is also known as "Pap" to all of his grandkids, great grand kids and their friends and family. He loved every single one of them in his own special way! At 90 years old he was still smiling, taking pictures and videos with them!
Troy was proceeded in death by his parents, Herbert and Florence Crowder. His brother, Doyle Crowder. His son-in-law, Robert G. Martinez and his wife, Ava Crowder.
He is survived by his daughter, Ava Maria (Crowder) Martinez, his grand-daughter, Amanda Nicole Martinez and her husband Chris Gamez. His grandson, Joshua Robert Martinez and his spouse Edith Reyes. His great grandchildren; Alexandria Martinez, Kaleb Martinez, Ellie'Ana Martinez and Catalina Martinez. He is survived by a few nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 12th, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home located at 5740 19th Street in Lubbock, Texas. His service will be Friday, October 13th, 2023 at 2 p.m. in the Abbey Chapel at Resthaven Funeral Home. Officiating Troy's service will be Dr. David Savage. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park
