Tommie Ann Campbell Hatch died peacefully in her own bed February 27, 2024, 4 hours shy of her 94th birthday. She was preceded in death by her parents Teresa and Tom Campbell and her oldest son and daughter-in-law Mike and Marti Hatch. Tommie was born in Wellington, TX and grew up in that wonderful small community where she excelled in playing the piano and accordion, voice and expression. She was also the high school majorette at Wellington High School. Tommie met and started dating the handsome new boy in town, Tim Hatch at Wellington junior high. They later attended and graduated from Texas Tech University where Tim asked Tommie to marry him their junior year before their 9AM class. She went back to her dorm and prayed about it giving him the answer during their 11AM class that yes, she would marry him. Tommie and Tim were happily married for 73 years.
As a young child, living on a ranch, Tommie played in the one tree by their ranch house every day. It was there that she began a life long relationship with Jesus. He was her friend and she learned to talk to Him and trust His guidance, which carried her through the ups and downs of life.
Tim and Tommie raised their 3 sons, Mike, Alan and Les in a loving home. Tommie was a wonderful mother and was often found in her closet, on her knees praying for her boys. She and Tim led their family to First United Methodist Church where Tommie served on many committees and faithfully taught Sunday School for 40 years to all ages.
She enjoyed serving on and chairing numerous boards supporting Lubbock and Texas Tech, where she was a member of Sans Souci, which became Kappa Alpha Theta. She was very involved with the Center for the Study of Addiction and Recovery and was committed to helping supply the tools to help people address their addictions.
Tommie had a fun and feisty personality and was a wonderful friend caring deeply about others. She played bridge for many years and then transitioned into playing and becoming a skilled Mahjong player. Tommie loved her Mahjong friends and they faithfully played together for many years. She and Tim adored their grandchildren and great grandchildren and attended every possible event in which the grandkids were involved. Whatever it was - football, baseball, track, basketball, ballet or a choir/piano concert, Tim and Tommie were there. She often said this was their social life. Their grandchildren and great grandchildren knew they were loved and Tommie had a profound influence on their lives. She trusted God and said every day: “I can’t, He can and I think I’ll let him”. Tommie loved music, loved to dance, loved to shop, loved tennis, water/snow skiing, loved parties, loved our pets, loved to travel and loved people. She loved all of her family unconditionally! She loved her life!
