Tom Hart, 92, died Thursday, January 9, 2014 in Lubbock, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 13, 2014 in The Ford Memorial Chapel at First Baptist Church. Tom was born July 23, 1921 in West Point, Texas to Joe Valley Hart and Roby Lee (Pritchett) Hart. Tom married the love of his life Pat Carter on June 12, 1945 in Brownfield, Texas. One of Tom’s proudest achievements was when he was a member of the 1939 Lubbock High State Champion football team which was known as a Cinderella Team, the first team in Lubbock to win a State Championship. He served in the 8th Air Force of the Army Air Corp (The Mighty Eighth) during WWII, during which he flew 35 missions in the European Theatre, and awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. After the war Tom went to Texas Tech earning his degree in Petroleum Engineering. He was also a member of Tau Beta Pi, Pi Epsilon Tau, and Alpha Chi. He served as a Boy Scout Master of Troop 155 for many years and was a member of the Timothy Class at First Baptist Church. Tom loved his family as well as Pat’s family. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, and 1 sister. He is survived by his wife Pat; 4 children, Lee Anne Ballard, Michael Hart, Kevin Hart and wife Michele, Holly Jones and husband Bruce; 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, serveral nieces and nephews, honorary family member, Teresa Munoz and family friend, Joe Patterson.
