Thomas Phillip Brown was born October 5, 1922 to Thomas William and Clara Wolverton Brown in Burlington, Iowa. Tom enlisted in the Navy in 1942, served in World War II, and was stationed at Midway. At the end of the war, he remained in the Active Reserves, then recalled to active duty in August 1950, and served in the Korean Conflict until 1952 when he was discharged.
On June 29, 1947, Tom married Karen Sandra Mackey in Burlington, Iowa. In 1954, the Browns moved to Alamogordo, New Mexico. Tom worked for Convair and then Lockheed. They adopted both of their sons while living in Alamogordo. In 1969, the family moved to Garland, Texas where Tom worked for Texas Instruments. Tom enjoyed coaching his son’s baseball team from t-ball through Little League, as well as bowling, softball and many other sports and activities.
The family moved to Lubbock, Texas in 1978. Tom continued working for Texas Instruments until his retirement in 1986. He was a charter member, deacon and Sunday School teacher at Redbud Baptist Church. After his retirement, he became a driver for Avis. Tom and Karen enjoyed traveling and have been to all 50 states. He has been on numerous mission trips in the United States, Wales, Canada, Mexico, and Israel.
Thomas died on August 1, 2015.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Karen, son, Phillip Brown; wife, Misty, grandsons; Cody, Wyatt, and Levi. Proceeded in death were his parents, Thomas and Clara Brown; son, Patrick Lee Brown; six sisters (Effie Stephenson, Ruth Koester, Dorothy Watkins, Helen Cosgrove, Hazel Brown, Betty Brown) and five brothers (Paul Brown, Earl Brown, Harold Brown, Ralph Brown and Stanley Brown).
