She was born January 31, 1947 in Levelland, Texas to Thomas Lee and Lillian Maurine (Raley) Lucas. She was a 1965 graduate of Odessa Permian High School and graduated from Cosmetology School in 1966. Sherlie Married Ronald Paul Sowell on August 19, 1967 in Artesia, New Mexico. She worked in the Cosmetology field until attending Nursing School in 1977 where she graduated as an LVN. She enjoyed a career in the nursing field doing what she loved, helping and serving people, until her retirement in 2001. After retirement, Sherlie volunteered at the Lubbock State School and as an Executive Assistant to the Board of Directors for the Texas Police Athletic Federation. During this time, she also took on the role as “Mamaw” and spent countless hours spoiling her grandchildren, attending many school and after school functions. Sherlie enjoyed spending time with her family, bowling, playing soccer and softball.
Sherlie is proceeded in death by her parents Thomas Lee and Lillian Maurine Lucas. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ronald Paul Sowell of Lubbock Texas; daughter, Staci Herrley of Lubbock; son and wife, Shane and Irma Sowell of Temple Texas; granddaughter, Michaela Sowell of Lubbock; grandson, Ronald Thomas Sowell of Lubbock; granddaughter, Samantha Pacheco of Hobbs New Mexico; Amanda Pacheco of Temple Texas, grandson, Mercedes Pacheco of Plainview Texas; 4 great grandchildren, Leah, Mia, A.J and Elliot; Brother and wife, Walter and Gwenn Lucas of Huntsville Texas; sister, Debbie Wisnieski of Houston.
