Ruby was born July 29, 1930 in Olney, Texas to Ambross and Maudie Rowlett and is the third of six children. She graduated from Hondo High School in 1947; moved to Lubbock in 1948 where she met and married Morris “Curley” Cook on January 29, 1949. Ruby attended beauty school after graduation. She owned and operated a beauty shop for 18 years and later worked at Grinnell Fire Protection Sprinkler System. She had a passion for playing the piano, gardening, and cooking meals for her family.
Ruby was a cherished member of Genesis Baptist Church and loved to sing in the choir.
She is survived by loved ones including her children, Victor Eugene Cook and Kenneth Yates; siblings Margie Notter and Annie Wurzbach; grandchildren Leah Corona, Daniel Cook, Ben Cook, Christy Williamson, Cassey Felts and Caleb Cook; great-grandchildren Dakota Hart, Jordan Hart, Stetson Cook, Zaylor Cook, Swayze Cook, Macon Williamson, Barrett Felts and Wynter Felts.
Preceded in death by her parents, Ambross and Maudie Rowlett; her husband Morris “Curley” Cook; her son John Cook; her brothers Ambross Rowlett Jr. and Albert Rowlett; and her sister Cornelia Moses.
The family invites you to join them as they honor and celebrate her life with a visitation beginning on Thursday, November 30, 2023 from 6pm-8pm at Resthaven Funeral Home, 5740 West 19th St, Lubbock, TX 79407. Services will continue on Friday, December 1, 2023 at 10am in Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
