Lubbock – A Funeral Mass for Ray Escobar, 86 of Lubbock, will be at 10 am, Friday, March 23, 2012 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited at 7 pm on Thursday, at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park. Mr. Escobar passed away on Sunday, March 18th.
Ray was born on Jan 6, 1926 in Benjamin, TX to William and Amalia Escobar. He graduated from Benjamin High School in 1946. Ray married Idella Acosta on August 2, 1947. He began his farming career in the Vera community in Knox County. After 13 years there, they moved to Knox City where he became the manager of the Bush and Burnett Ranch for 39 years. He also was farming and ranching during this time.
Ray was a lifelong member of the Santa Rosa Catholic Church in Knox City and member of the Knights of Columbus in Rhineland. He served on the Knox County Agricultural Committee for 14 years and the Committee Board of the area Small Business Administration for 10 years.
Ray was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Macias, and three brothers, Bill, Phillip and Bo Escobar, all of California.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Idella; one daughter, Janie Esparza and husband, Robert of Lubbock; one son, Charles Escobar and wife Annette of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Emily Esparza, Michelle, Trisha and Anthony Escobar; three sisters, Martha Palacios of Sunland, CA, Betty Martinez of LaCrensena, CA, and Esther Cano of Incline Village, NV; two brothers, Ralph Escobar of San Antonio and Henry Escobar of Tunjunga, CA as well as numerous other family.
