Randy Michiel Franklin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Randy was born in Electra, Texas on October 29, 1946, to Amos and Viola Franklin. He was the youngest boy of the family, but never let that hold him back from being involved and most of the time, leading their shenanigans.
Randy met the love of his life, Lois, just before he was drafted for the Vietnam War. Before he left for his station in Germany, he asked her to marry him. He said he couldn’t leave a pretty girl like her without making things official. Once he returned, they married on February 3, 1968, and together, they raised their three children, Mike, Rob, and Jen.
Born into a family of hard workers, Randy always made sure his family had what they needed. He worked at McLane for 25 years as a truck driver and inventory specialist. In his free time, he loved working in his shop that he built with his sons. He could build anything and knew how to fix just about everything before Google or YouTube were around. When his granddaughters came along, he became affectionately known as Papaw, and was over the moon for them. From building custom barbie furniture requests to tracking down bike thieves, there wasn’t anything that he wouldn’t do for his girls. Randy didn’t think anything could come close to his love for his granddaughters, until his great grandbabies came into his life. You couldn’t find a prouder Papaw than him.
Randy was hilarious and loved to tell stories that would make you laugh until you cry. He had a story for everything and loved to recall funny memories from growing up in his huge family. He could make you feel better on your worst day, and make you forget why you were upset to begin with.
His parents and siblings – Margaret, Billy, Benny, Ricky, Jerry, Helen, Joe, Bobbie, Karen, and Doris, along with his wife, preceded him in death.
Randy will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Those left to honor his memory are his children, Mike Franklin and daughter-in-law, Stacy, Rob Franklin and daughter-in-law, Jenny, and Jen Soto and son-in-law, Chris; granddaughters, Regan Renteria (Josue), Kasey Montgomery (Blake), Greer Franklin, and Madi Soto; great-grandchildren, Josh, Parker and Ava Renteria; a sister, Kay Brown (Bill); many nieces, nephews, and friends; and his dogs that he cherished, Bear and Bo.
To honor Randy, there will be a memorial service held at Resthaven Funeral Home on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 1:00 pm.
What’s greater than God? That was the first line of a riddle that he repeated to anyone he met. He’d rattle off the rest of the riddle quickly and then go back to the first line and repeat it slowly to make you realize you already knew the answer. What’s greater than God? Nothing. We are thankful for the promise of heaven, knowing that we will see you again someday. Give mom a hug and kiss for us, and we know you will both be watching over us just as you’ve always done.
