Ramiro was born January 10, 1935 in Mission, Texas to Magdalena & Pedro Garza.
Growing up, he traveled all over the United States as a migrant worker with Raymondville, Texas being his hometown. He would often tell stories of his many adventures whether working in Washington State, Michigan, Utah, Idaho, California, Florida, etc.
He married the love of his life and lifetime friend, Susie Ybarra on May 4, 1967 in Lubbock, Texas. From then on he made Lubbock his home. He worked at the cotton compress for several years. He later began working as a painter. He was a member of the Lubbock Painters Union for many years. In 1992, he and Susie opened R&M Body Shop and Auto Sales; where he would continue to go up until a couple of weeks before his passing. He had a passion for cars. When watching movies, his eyes would light up when he saw old cars. He could identify every antique vehicle and tell you what type of engine it had and what year certain engines were implemented. Growing up, he and his brother Roberto (Beto) bought many cars together (many because they were pretty rough on them). He could tell you which car they bought in what year and what city and state they were purchased in. He instilled values and morals to his children and grandchildren. He was a perfectionist in all he did. He enjoyed watching boxing, the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers. One of his most memorable sayings was, “It’s a chance you gotta take”.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife and companion for 64 years, Susie Garza; children: Irma (Tony) Ponciano, Marin (Keyshia) Garza, Sylvia (Noe) Brito, Joe (Rosie) Duran and Elva (Charles) Lopez; sisters, Magdalena Alonzo of Denver, CO, Eduvina Montes of Raymondville, TX, and Celia Tamez of Mesquite, TX; 15 grand-children; and 23 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marin, Pablo, & Roberto Garza; and sisters, Juanita Alvarez and Hermelinda Bristow.
